The South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) gas transmission project consists of the SSWJ Phase I and SSWJ Phase II pipelines. PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), a majority-owned subsidiary of PERTAMINA, proposed the project in 2002 to meet growing gas demand in western Java. PGN progressed the two phases simultaneously. SSWJ Phase II started gas transport in October 2006, ahead of the March 2007 start of the SSWJ Phase I. SSWJ Phase I runs for 450 km and connects Pagardewa, South Sumatra Province to Serpong, Banten Province in Java. SSWJ Phase II covers 661 km and connects Grissik, South Sumatra Province to Rawa Maju, Bekasi in West Java Province. In Sumatra, SSWJ Phase I and II run parallel from Pagardewa to Labuhan Maringgai, Lampung Province before diverging to their respective receiving points in western Java.
