The Selene gas field lies in the Southern North Sea, 20-kilometres northwest of Barque. In 1989, Amerada Hess drilled well 48/8B-2, downdip of the current Selene structure. It was initially classed a dry hole but following re-evaluation of the seismic data by Deltic Energy, the poor reservoir quality was found to be localised, with quality increasing away from the two faults that bound the structure.
