Jamaica, located in the Caribbean Sea, has never produced commercial quantities of oil or gas. It imports most of its energy needs. Although the first exploration well was drilled in 1955, the country, including its surrounding maritime area, is under-explored, with only 11 wells drilled to date (10 of which encountered hydrocarbons shows).
