Block 9 is located in southern Iraq, 25 kilometres north of Basra, on the border with Iran. The Faihaa oil field was discovered by a consortium led by Kuwait Energy in September 2014. It is an extension of Iran's giant Yadavaran field and was the first discovery from Iraq's 2012 exploration round.
