The legacy Central Asia-Centre (CAC) gas pipeline network was built in the 1960-80s to transport Central Asian gas to Russia for internal use and onward export to Europe.Gazprom's gas purchases from Turkmenistan ceased in mid-2024. Russian flows to Uzbekistan are minor. As a result, the CAC system is severely under-utilised.
