The Buchan oil field lies in the South Halibut Basin in the Central North Sea. It was one of the earliest oil discoveries in the North Sea and the field produced from 1978 until 2017. All of the original infrastructure was completely removed and decommissioned.Estimates suggested there was still commercially viable volumes left in the ground and this is what the partners intend to develop.
