On 18 March, President Trump held a call with Vladimir Putin, discussing a potential 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. Russia agreed to pause attacks on energy infrastructure but rejected a fuller ceasefire. Further US-Russia ceasefire talks are set for 23 March in Saudi Arabia. Based on the dynamics of negotiations at this early stage, a peace deal effectively forced on Ukraine by the US and Russia looks like the likely outcome.
