Report summary
The Malay Basin, a major sedimentary depocenter off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia extending south into Indonesian waters, has been a key focus for hydrocarbon exploration. The primary play in the basin has been the Late Oligocene to Early Miocene oil and gas reservoirs. However, exploration activity has been limited, with only three wells drilled in the past decade and the last discovery recorded in 2012. Looking ahead, we anticipate small prospective resources in this mature basin, but sustained high gas prices could enhance the economic viability of future exploration efforts.
