The Llanos basin of Colombia is one of the largest sedimentary basins in the country and has been the target of oil and gas exploration since the 1940's. The basin covers over 220,000 sq km and is oil-prone, containing several giant medium and heavy oil fields such as Cusiana, Cano Limon, and Rubiales. We analyse the remaining prospective resource potential of the basin and the achievable exploration metrics from future activity. Remaining prospects are small but can be tied into infrastructure quickly, providing high returns. Activity has fallen since the oil price crash in 2014 and is forecast to remain low in the future. All analysis, results and forecast metrics are available to download in pdf and excel format.
