Report summary
The Azerbaijan South Caspian Basin is a prolific hydrocarbon basin. Historically, it has been a liquids-rich province, dominated by onshore and shelf exploration. However, since the discovery of the giant Shah Deniz gas field in 1999, explorers have predominantly targeted giant, ultra-deep gas prospects, resulting in several major discoveries - Umid (2010), Absheron (2011) and Shafag Asiman (2021). The basin has the potential to create full-cycle value in the future which is driven by the smaller oil volumes in the shelf oil play and the condensate volumes in the deepwater gas play.
