Valle de Elqui is an iron ore mining complex operated by the Compañia Minera del Pacífico (CMP). It includes the El Romeral and Pleito mines, with operations around to the city of La Serena, approximately 470 kilometres north of Santiago. As an integrated complex, it also includes a 38 km railway linking to the Guayacán Port. El Romeral produces up to 4 Mtpa of pre-concentrate and 2 Mtpa of pellet feed, while Pleito serving as a supplemental source. At the complex, the El Romeral mine is transitioning from open-pit to underground mining, with operations expected to extend the mine’s life to 2034.
