CSA (Companhia Siderúrgica do Atlântico), owned and operated by Ternium, is the company’s largest steelmaking facility. Commonly referred to as Santa Cruz, after the district in Rio de Janeiro where it is located, the plant began construction in September 2006. The steel mill has an annual capacity of 5.3 Mt of hot metal, 5.2 Mt of crude steel, and 5.0 Mt of continuous casting. Equipped with on-site sintering and coking plants, and featuring state-of-the-art technology, the facility is structurally competitive. However, its reliance on Vale as a single iron ore supplier, places it at a disadvantage compared to other Brazilian steelmakers that benefit from captive iron ore production.
