Report summary
In August 2018 Western Areas announced that it will release a definitive feasibility study (DFS) on the Odysseus project in September. As mining transitions from open pit to underground the company is looking at designing a shaft haulage system that will have a life of greater than 10 years and allow average nickel production of 12.5 kt/a and up to 17 kt/a during its peak. The operation will also require a larger 900 kt/a mill to be constructed. Odysseus is expected to start production of ore in late 2021 with first nickel concentrate to follow in late 2022.
