Report summary
Mineração Usiminas S.A., or MUSA, is a mid-sized surface mining complex located in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region of Minas Gerais state, Brazil. It is jointly owned by Usiminas and Sumitomo and produces a mix of lump, fines and concentrate products for both the domestic and seaborne export markets. In 2020, Usiminas completed the construction of filtration lines at MUSA which allowed the mine to transition into an 100% dry-processing operation. Usiminas is also in the process of decommissioning its two upstream tailings dams located at MUSA. While Barragem Mina Oeste (Somisa) was already fully decommissioned, Usiminas is yet to finalise civil works for the decharacterisation of Barragem Central. We expect MUSA's output to grow by over 30% until 2022. We anticipate most of this output will be steered towards the seaborne export market.
