Minas Centrais is a mining complex owned and operated by Vale in Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The complex comprises one operating mine, Brucutu and produces a mixture of fines and concentrates. Products are aimed at the seaborne export market and Vale's pellet plants in Tubarão. In 2019, the complex's operation was halted due to the high risk of a dam failure. Vale then opted to license and initiate the construction of a new tailings storage structure, the so-called Torto Dam. The facility, along with Brucutu's tailings filtering plant and dry-stacking activities, will allow the mine to finally scale up production closer to its designed rate of 30 Mtpa.
