Mariana is a mining complex owned and operated by Vale with most of its projects located in the namesake city of Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The complex is comprised of three operating mines — Fábrica Nova, Alegria and Fazendão — two depleted ones — Timbopeba and Conta História — and the Capanema project. Since 2019, when Mariana's Timbopeba operations were halted, Vale has been on a recovery path. In Q2 and Q4 2020, it received the green light to restart Timbopeba's dry and wet processing facilities. In the following years, Mariana's output continued an upward trend marking a 121% recovery in 2023 compared to 2019 figures. With additional volume to be brought by the Capanema project, Mariana's ultimate output will be reached by 2027.
